the village of hope seeks to help children infected or affected by hiv, aids and tb in two different ways: we have a 9 bed children's unit to support those infected by hiv and aids and we also run a community-based sports and lifeskills outreach in the informal settlements and squatter camps each afternoon.

this blog has been set up to allow the key members of the team at the village of hope to share their thoughts, photos and experiences as we work in the community of grabouw in south africa

pastures new

we are truly blessed at the village of hope with our wonderful long term volunteers who serve here with us placing no financial burden upon the charity but following their call to think of others before themselves. one of those amazing people is tim berger who has not only faithfully spent the last year with us at the project but had previously lead mission teams from the united states for the last 6 years to work with the thembalitsha foundation.

tim has been a key member of our team supporting johan and heinrich in their duties around the village of hope, taking on a role in our sports outreach and also assisting with our 'rainbow smiles' HIV support group.

during the year tim has been seeking to serve the wider community of grabouw and he has decided to follow that vision that he believes God is leading him to, so he will be leaving our merry band here at the village of hope but we wanted to take this opportunity to publicly thank him for his wonderful handy work and the support he has given during his time with us. so it is with our blessing that we bid him farewell and trust that  he won't be a stranger as we all seek to provide new hope to those most in need in our little town.

thanks tim, for all your work and as a last hurrah he is joining the sports mentors this evening as we venture to cape town to watch bafana bafana play norway at the greenpoint stadium, we trust that this will be a fitting thank you!

USA teams racing around!

over the last couple of weeks we have been blessed by the visit of two teams from the USA who have returned to work with us at the village of hope and the wider thembalitsha projects in grabouw. i will post more about the amazing team from augusta in another post but this one will try to capture the work that tim berger and his team did during their 10 day visit to our project.

well where can one start, i suppose the most amazing news is that we now have a fully fledged race track, see photo, where our older children can enjoy riding their small bikes around and around and around, it is a real hit.

other than that they installed a much needed carport/wood store for the volunteers unit, they helped cut and shift wood along with our longer term volunteer tyler and they blessed sister thandi at thembacare by completing some much needed repairs and repainted the whole of the in patient lounge which now looks fantastic.

they also blessed the children in our unit, helped out at our sports outreach clubs and made home visits with the thembacare home based care team....we want to thank them for their wonderful support, love and care and we will miss them, come back soon guys!
